This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in the Clinical "_" or In-Residence series. The Department provides a stimulating teaching and academic environment. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. This individual should also have ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment and adhere to University policies and procedures. The incumbent will provide teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, participate in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations, provide service to department and school committees. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at UC Davis is imperative. The successful applicant will also provide oversight to the forensic psychiatry fellows on selected forensic mental health research projects. The position also requires supervision of these fellows on selected forensic cases and on the use of violence and sexual violence risk assessments in a forensic hospital setting. Additional responsibilities will include teaching a weekly seminar designed to provide training to the forensic psychiatry fellows in the appropriate and ethical use of psychological assessments in a forensic setting. The successful candidate will have knowledge of state forensic hospital systems, forensic outpatient programs such as conditional release and diversion, and appropriate treatments for patients committed to the state hospitals through the criminal justice system. This position is funded in part through a long-term contract with the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) and was developed to provide forensically relevant research to inform patient care and policy decisions for the DSH system. All of these sites provide robust experiences for forensic assessments and research. The Division has affiliation agreements with the Sacramento County Jail, Napa State Hospital (forensic psychiatric hospital), and the California Department of State Hospitals. The Division has been accredited by the ACGME since 1998 and currently is the training site for four forensic psychiatry fellows annually. Start date is flexible but no later than July 1, 2023. This position requires excellence in teaching, research, and clinical assessment.
